This Child Woke Up With Strange Rashes. Now Mother Warns Other Parents To Be Careful With…

One woman learned the hard way that you have to be careful what you feed your children. Misty and her husband, at first, thought nothing of allowing her little one to consume some colored potato snacks that she seemed to enjoy. It was not until after Annie woke up with large, circular rashes on both her legs that they began to worry. They took her to the doctor, where they discovered that she might have had an allergic reaction to the colors in the snacks.

Strange Rashes

Certain foods, such as candies, soft drinks and packaged “fruit snacks” (those little gummy snacks that boast “good source of vitamin C” on the package, but are still just candy) contain artificial colors that have been linked to various health issues, especially in children. For example, red dye 40, yellow dye 5 and yellow dye 6, the three most common dyes used in processed foods, contain benzene -a chemical linked to cancer. Food dyes have also been linked to ADHD, hypersensitivity, and various other issues. Many of these dyes have been banned in other countries, but not in the United States. In the countries where they are banned, food manufacturers have been forced to find natural, plant-based alternatives to add color to their foods.

There are natural ways to rid the body of artificial dyes and other toxins found in foods. However, the first step is to eliminate these foods in the first place. Going through your cabinets, refrigerator and freezer and getting rid of anything processed will help protect your family not only from the harmful dyes but also from preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, and other substances that lead to poor health.

Once you have cleaned the offending foods from your home, it is important to choose a detox method that will be safe for all family members including the children. Many detox programs advocate fasting -which of course is not appropriate for the little ones. However, eating raw or lightly cooked vegetables is a healthy way to begin cleansing the body. Another healthful method of detoxing is adding a squeeze of lemon juice to your water throughout the day. This not only encourages those who might not otherwise drink a lot of water to drink more of it (because of the enhanced taste) but also helps with the cleansing process because of the citric acid.

Finally, increase your intake of fiber and antioxidants. Fiber naturally helps to cleanse the digestive tract by moving excess waste through the intestines and helping to eliminate them. Bowel health is central to your overall health as any dyes and chemicals trapped in the body can be stored there. Antioxidants like vitamin C, vitamin E, and lutein protect the body from free radicals that are formed when we eat unhealthy foods. Increasing your intake of these nutrients will not only help in the cleansing process but will also help you to remain healthy in the long run.
