She Felt Something Moving Inside of Her Mouth. When the Dentist Sees THIS…It’s Scary!
Adriana Cardosa of Brasilia, Brazil grew concerned when her 10-year-old daughter, Ana, told her that she felt something moving inside of her mouth and a tingling sensation. After Ana brushed her teeth and continued to complain about the moving feeling, Adriana took her daughter to the dentist where she learned something horrifying: maggots had taken residence inside of her daughter’s gums.
The condition, known as oral myiasis, is extremely rare. It is caused by the larvae of dipteran flies and most often occurs in the tropics and in developing countries. The flies are normally attracted to the mouth by poor oral hygiene or food that remains in the mouth after eating. The eggs are then deposited into the mouth when it is open, where they then feed on the gum tissue.

Treatment for the condition typically involves gentle removal of the larvae by a medical professional after luring them out with bacon strips or oil, debriding of the dead tissue, saline irrigation of the site and the application of chloroform to kill any remaining larvae.
In the video, Ana bravely allows the dentist to remove 15 larvae from the inside of her mouth while her mother watches in shock. Proper hygiene will help prevent Ana from dealing with the problem again, keeping her beautiful smile healthy and white as she grows.
